Service Truck Crane Operator

OVERVIEW

The CCO Service Truck Crane Operator certification (STC) is a specialized subset of the CCO Telescopic Boom—Fixed Cab (TSS) certification, tailored specifically for industries that utilize these compact machines.

Service truck cranes are characterized by their telescopic booms, where the stabilizer/outrigger system is separate from the base and mast structure. These cranes predominantly employ a winch (either electric or hydraulic) for lifting, and their essential functions like rotation, elevation, and telescoping can be powered or manually operated. Generally, these machines have relatively shorter boom lengths ranging from 10 to 35 feet and lower lifting capacities, typically in the range of 1 to 7 tons. In comparison to other Telescopic Boom—Fixed Cab machines like Boom Trucks or Carry Deck cranes, they are more compact and have lower load capacities.

The operator typically controls the service truck crane through radio remote or pendant control, while stationed on the ground, closely monitoring the load.
